Bauska Castle

Bauska Castle was built by the Livonian Order to strengthen its position and protect the border with Lithuania. Both local residents and Finno-Ugric prisoners brought from Russia took part in the construction of the castle. The castle became the residence of the duke and the legal center of the city. During the Great Northern War, the castle was destroyed, now the castle is under restoration.
