Japan, officially known as the State of Japan, is an island nation located in East Asia. Its location in the Pacific Ocean is east of the Sea of Japan, China, North and South Korea, and Russia.
Japan covers the territory from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and the island of Taiwan in the south. Her poetic nickname is “The Land of the Rising Sun”.
This country is located in the Japanese archipelago, which, according to government estimates, includes 6852 islands. The four largest islands, such as Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku, cover more than 95% of the total area of the archipelago.
Most of these islands are mountainous and many of them are volcanic. The highest point in Japan is Fujiyama volcano, reaching a height of 3776 meters.
With a population approaching 126 million, Japan ranks eleventh in terms of population in the world. Greater Tokyo, which includes the capital of Japan, Tokyo, and several adjacent prefectures, has more than 30 million inhabitants and is the largest urban agglomeration in the world.
