China, officially known as the People’s Republic of China, is a country in East Asia.
This country ranks fourth in the world in terms of area (9,598,962 km²), second only to Russia, Canada and the United States. In terms of population, which is 1,411,750,000 people, China ranks second after India. The level of urbanization in the country is 65%. The bulk of the population is made up of ethnic Chinese who call themselves Han.
According to the constitution, the People’s Republic of China is a socialist state. However, in practice it functions as an authoritarian dictatorship.
The Chinese economy ranks second in the world in terms of nominal GDP and first in terms of GDP in purchasing power parity. The PRC is also a leader in the production of most types of industrial products and is the world’s largest exporter, often called the “factory of the world”, and one of the most important markets.
