Mexico, officially called the United Mexican States, is a country in North America.
In the north it borders with the United States of America, in the southeast with Belize and Guatemala, and in the west it is washed by the waters of the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean, and in the east by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
It is the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world by population.
Mexico is an industrial-agrarian country, one of the most economically developed in America. Oil, natural gas (one of the leading places in America), iron ore, sulfur, antimony ores, mercury and graphite are mined.
Evidence of human presence in Mexico dates back to at least the 2nd millennium BC. In the middle of the 1st millennium BC, sedentary cultures began to form in Central and Southern Mexico.
