Chile, officially known as the Republic of Chile, is situated in the southwestern part of South America, encompassing an elongated and narrow stretch of land nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains. To the west, it is lapped by the Pacific Ocean, sharing its eastern border with Argentina, northern border with Peru, and northeastern border with Bolivia.
With an extensive coastline measuring 6,435 km, Chile holds exclusive rights to the adjoining maritime region known as the Chilean Sea. This maritime area comprises territorial waters (120,827 km²), a contiguous zone (131,669 km²), an exclusive economic zone (3,681,989 km²), and the corresponding continental shelf (161,338 km²).
Santiago serves as the capital, and Spanish is the official language. Chile operates as a unitary state.
