The Republic of China, internationally recognized as either the Republic of China (Taiwan) or simply Taiwan (named after the island that constitutes most of its territory), is a state in East Asia with partial international recognition.

The “Taiwan region” encompasses an area of 36,197 km², comprising Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu islands, along with several smaller ones. Since the Kuomintang government’s relocation to Taiwan in 1949, the term “Taiwan region” refers to the territory under the de facto jurisdiction of the Republic of China government.

The National Day of the Republic of China is celebrated on October 10th.
