Riga’s Old Town, situated on the right bank of the Daugava River (Western Dvina), stands as the city’s oldest quarter, renowned for its historic cathedrals and buildings.
Defined by the 11 November embankment, 13 January street, Krišjana Valdemara street, and Aspazijas and Siegfrida Annas Meyerovica boulevards, the Old Town encompasses an area of 94.4 hectares.
Designated as a protected area in 1967, the Old Town attained the status of a monument city in 1983. In 1997, its historical significance was globally acknowledged when the Old Town of Riga was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List.
