A live webcam shows Mikhail Tversky Square in the city of Tver.

Mikhail Tversky Square is the main square of Tver, located at the intersection of Sovetskaya, Volnogo Novgoroda, Novotorzhskaya, and Andrey Dementyev streets in the very center of the city. The square is situated in the Central District of Tver, between Lenin Square and Pushkin Square. It was formed as a result of the city’s reconstruction after a major fire in 1763, based on the project by architect P. R. Nikitin.

Three streets – Sovetskaya, Volnogo Novgoroda, and Novotorzhskaya – radiate from Mikhail Tversky Square. Thus, Tver’s main square is the pinnacle of a triangle in the historical center of Tver, formed by the streets of Volnogo Novgoroda, Novotorzhskaya, and Tverskoy Prospekt in terms of city planning. In the center of this triangle lies Lenin Square – one of the three city squares in the Central District of the city.

Mikhail Tversky Square is lined with historical buildings, including the residence of the Governor of the Tver Region, the House of Education Workers, the House of Technology, the post office building, and the “Vulkan” cinema – the oldest cinema in Tver. In 2008, a monument to Tver Prince Mikhail Yaroslavich was erected in the square.

Throughout its history, the square has been renamed many times. Initially, the street was named Semicircular, then it was renamed to Pochtovaya, and after the October Revolution, it carried the name Soviet Square for a long time. On November 2, 2018, Soviet Square was renamed Mikhail Tversky Square, and on December 16, 2019, it was once again renamed to “Mikhail Tversky Square of the Holy Prince Mikhail Tversky.”
