1905 Square is the main square of Yekaterinburg, located in the very center of the city. Locals call it the “square of the fifth year,” as it became the center of revolutionary events in the city in the early 20th century. At different times, it was called Church Square, Cathedral Square, Trade Square, and Fifth Year Square.
Every year, mass celebrations and New Year festivities take place on this square, where the main Christmas tree of Yekaterinburg, the Ural Federal District, and the Sverdlovsk Oblast are set up for the New Year. Other holidays are also celebrated here, along with fairs and exhibitions.
