The Francis Scott Key Bridge, seen via live webcam, originally known as the Outer Harbor Crossing, was a steel arch bridge spanning the Patapsco River and Baltimore’s Outer Harbor.
This bridge was part of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695), connecting the Hawkins Point area of Baltimore to Dundalk in Maryland, USA.
It opened on March 23, 1977 and is named after Francis Scott Key, the lyricist of the American anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The bridge was also known as the Key Bridge or Beltway Bridge. The bridge’s main span was the third longest of any continuous truss in the world, with a total length of 8,636 feet.
However, on March 26, 2024, the bridge was destroyed when the container ship MV Dali collided with one of its supports. This led to the collapse of the main spans, causing serious consequences.
