A live webcam shows Lenin Square in Tver in real time.

Lenin Square is one of the largest city squares in Tver, located in the Central district of the city at the intersection of Sovetskaya and Trekhsvyatskaya streets. It was built in the shape of a regular octagon in the middle of the 18th century according to the project of architect P. R. Nikitin as part of the city’s reconstruction after the fire of 1763.

Since its foundation, it has been one of the three main squares in Tver. Throughout its long history, the square has been renamed several times. Initially named Octagonal Square, it later was known as Fountain Square, Monumental Square, Judicial Square, Square of “Truth,” and finally received its current name in honor of V. I. Lenin in 1935.

The eight corners of the square are formed by four historical buildings located around its perimeter. During the Great Patriotic War, the buildings on the square suffered significant damage as a result of military actions in 1941. However, the buildings were restored, and the architectural ensemble of the square was preserved.

Among the architectural and historical monuments on the square, one can distinguish the building of the Tver city administration, the building of the main office of the Bank of Russia, the building of the Tver city Duma and the administration of the Central district of Tver, as well as the Children and Youth Theater. In the center of the square stands a monument to V.I. Lenin, erected in 1926, destroyed by enemy artillery at the end of 1941, and reinstalled in 1959.
