A live webcam displays two volcanoes in Kamchatka in real-time – Koryaksky and Avachinsky. Both volcanoes are active and located close to each other. Koryaksky volcano is situated 35 km north of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, while Avachinsky Sopka is closer to the capital of Kamchatka Krai.

Avachinsky Sopka is the most visited volcano by residents and tourists in Kamchatka, as it is located close to the city and has easy routes to the summit. The ascent to the crater, at a height of about 2741 m, takes around 7 hours. The crater has a diameter of 400 m, and a lava plug formed in the crater after the volcano’s eruption in 1991. The Institute of Volcanology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is located near the volcano. The lower part of Avachinsky volcano slopes are covered with a forest of stone birch and cedar. Higher up the slopes, there are glaciers and lots of snow.
