The Damrak is an avenue and partially infilled canal that runs through the center of Amsterdam, starting from Amsterdam Central Station in the north to Dam Square in the south. This street is the main artery through which arriving passengers reach the city center, starting their journey from the station.
In addition,Damrakis a route for GVB trams, including lines 4, 9, 16 and 25. It will also host the North/South metro line, which is under construction and will connect the existing metro station at Central station with the new Rokin station.
It is interesting to note that Damrak was originally located on the bank (reach) right on theAmstelriver, next to the dam. This is where its name comes from. In the 19th century, part of this street was filled in, giving it its modern appearance.
