Sweden, also known as the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe, located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It borders Norway to the west and north, Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark by a tunnel bridge over the Eresund River to the southwest.
Sweden has an area of 450,295 square kilometers (173,860 square miles), making it the largest country in Northern Europe and the fifth largest nation in Europe. The capital and largest city is Stockholm.
Sweden has a population of 10.5 million, with a low population density of 25.5 people per square kilometer (66 people per square mile). At the same time, about 87% of the population lives in cities, which occupy only 1.5% of the country’s territory in its central and southern parts.
Sweden’s nature is characterized by a predominance of forests and many lakes, including some of the largest in Europe. Numerous long rivers flow from the Skanda mountain range, mostly flowing into the northern tributaries of the Baltic Sea. The country has an extensive coastline, and most of the population lives near large bodies of water. Because of the considerable distance from 55° to 69° north latitude, Sweden’s climate is varied.
