Peru, the official name is Republic of Peru, also known as Per (Spanish Perú, Aim. and Quechua Piruw).
Lima is the capital city of Peru and Spanish is its official language.
It borders Ecuador to the northwest, Colombia to the north, Brazil to the east, and Bolivia and Chile to the southeast. The country is washed by the Pacific Ocean. In terms of area size, Peru occupies third place in South America after Brazil and Argentina.
The first settlements on what is now the territory of modern-day Peru date back to 10 thousand years BC in river valleys along its coast. Archaeological findings such as stone tools, animal bones and plant remains indicate human occupation here at least 12 thousand years ago.
Located on the North-central coast of this country is an ancient civilization known as Norte Chico which existed approximately between 3000BC – 1800BC.
