This is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in her image as Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is located at the foot of Tepeyac Hill in the Gustavo A. Madero district of Mexico City.
The Basilica belongs to the Archdiocese of the Primate of Mexico through the Vicariate of Guadalupan, which, since November 4, 2018, has been under the guardianship of Monsignor Efraín Hernández Díaz, who holds the title of Vicar General and Episcopal of Guadalupe and Rector of the Basilica.
Every year, about twenty million pilgrims visit the sanctuary, and the largest number of them, about nine million, gathers on December 12, the feast day of St. Mary of Guadalupe.
Attendance at the Basilica of Santa Maria de Guadalupe annually exceeds that of the most famous Marian shrines, making it a unique social and cultural phenomenon.
