Mount Krim, where the webcam is located, through which you can see the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana.

This mountain, 1107 meters high, is located on the southern edge of the Ljubljana Marsh in Slovenia. Due to its location and unique shape, it is one of the most recognizable features of the Ljubljana Basin, attracting thousands of tourists every year.

In the 1970s, the Yugoslav People’s Army closed the mountaintop to the public and set up a radio center there. Since 1991, the peak has been accessible to visitors again and is home to a small mountain lodge.

The first mentions of Mount Crimea in written sources date back to 1689, when it was referred to as Khorim and Korin, and also to 1726 under the name Kurin. The name comes from the passive present participle *kurimъ, meaning “smoker,” reflecting the presence of clouds that often cover the peak.

Despite its prominent feature of the Ljubljana Marsh, the mountain did not play a significant role in the past. However, in 1817, a first-class trigonometric point No. 172 was installed on its top, which was used as the base coordinate for cadastral measurements of the regions of Carniola, Littoral and Istria.
