Unicov is a small town located on the banks of the Oskava River in the Olomouc Region in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, 22 km northwest of Olomouc – the regional center of the region. It covers an area of 48.27 km² and has a population of over 11 thousand people. The town was founded around 1213 by the son of the King of Bohemia, Vladislav II, the Margrave of Moravia, Vladislav Jindřich.
The historical center of the town has been preserved, with many landmarks such as the Market Square, the Town Hall, a Baroque fountain with Neptune (18th century), the town museum, and medieval fortifications, such as the Medelská Gate. In the very center of Unichov is the Market Square, serving as the political, social, and cultural hub of the town.
At the heart of the Market Square stands the Town Hall with a clock tower and a circumferential gallery 45 meters high, built in the 19th century in the Neo-Renaissance style. In the northern part of the square is the Marian Column (plague column) erected in 1743, and not far from there is the Assumption Church.
