The Chimbulak ski resort is one of the most popular ski resorts in Kazakhstan, thanks to its proximity to the country’s largest city, Almaty. It is located at an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountain range, 7 km and 800 meters higher than the high-altitude skating rink Medeo, and 40 km (30 minutes drive) south of Almaty.
There are about 18 ski slopes of varying difficulty levels here, ranging from easy “green” to challenging “red” and “black” slopes. The total length of the slopes is 25 km, with slopes for beginners, mogul skiing, downhill skiing, and slalom. The slopes are served by 10 cable lifts.
The resort’s infrastructure includes rental shops, cafes and restaurants serving international and traditional Kazakh cuisine, a ski school, and the Kazakh Alpine Club excursion bureau. The skiing season at the Chimbulak ski resort lasts from November to April due to its high-altitude location and snowmaking machines. The weather here is characterized by a high number of sunny days per year.
