Using a live webcam, you can watch the Old Port of Marseille (Vieux-Port de Marseille).
Situated at the end of Canebière, Marseille’s main street, this port has historically served as the city’s natural harbor and is today an important symbol of the city.
The Old Port has become a predominantly pedestrian area since 2013, attracting many visitors. As early as 600 BC, Greek settlers from Phocea established a trading post in this rocky Mediterranean bay, where the Old Port of Marseille is now located.
Since then, the site has remained the heart of the city’s maritime activities. During the Middle Ages, the land at the far end of the port was used to grow hemp, which was used to make rope for sailors, and hence the name of Marseille’s main street, Canebières.
