With a live webcam, you can view Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning “valley of the rocks”).

This region of the Colorado Plateau is characterized by numerous sandstone hills, the highest of which rise 1,000 feet (about 300 m) above valley level.

The most famous formations are in northeastern Arizona along the border with Utah. For the Navajo people, Native Americans living on the reservation, this region has sacred significance.

Since the 1930s, Monument Valley has attracted media attention.

Director John Ford used the location to film his Westerns; critic Kate Phipps noted that “its five square miles (13 km2) defined what moviegoers thought about when they imagined the American West for decades.”
