This live webcam invites you to explore the city of Centuripe, located in the province of Enna on the island of Sicily, in southern Italy. It is located in the hilly area between the Dittaino and Salso rivers, 61 kilometers (38 miles) from Enna.
The city’s economy is largely dependent on agriculture. Here you can also find caves with sulfur and salt minerals, as well as water sources.
Thucydides mentions Kentoripa (Kentoripai) as an ancient city with a Sikelian population that became Hellenized in the 5th century BC. The city became an ally of the Athenians during their expedition to Syracuse and practically retained its independence until the First Punic War, after which it submitted to the Romans. As a result, Centuripe was granted the status of a free city without the obligation to pay taxes before the rest of the cities of Sicily.
