Romania is a state in South-Eastern Europe, partially occupying the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula, and it is washed by the waters of the Black Sea on its southeast. Ukraine borders it to the north, Moldova to the northeast, Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the west and Bulgaria to the south.
It has an area of 238,391 km² and a population of over 19,401 million as of 2019, which makes it both the largest country in terms of territory and population in this region. In terms of population, it ranks 62nd in the world, and territory-wise it ranks 80th.
In Romania there is a significant ethnocultural diversity; about 87% of people are Orthodox Christians.
The country consists of forty-two administrative-territorial units including forty-one counties plus one municipality (Bucharest) with county status.
Bucharest is its capital city while Romanian is its official language.
Romania has a unitary form of governance that combines elements of presidential republicanism and parliamentary democracy. The president is Klaus Iohannis while Marcel Ciolaku holds a prime ministerial position.
Its monetary unit is leu.
In 1859 the unification or reunion if you like two principalities Moldavia and Wallachia into one single country called Romania which found itself under Cuza’s proclamation made on December 11, 1861, for creating a unified state known as Romania. Independence was declared on May 21st,1877
