Poland, formally known as the Republic of Poland, holds its position in Central Europe. Its territory is divided into 16 administrative regions called voivodeships, encompassing an area spanning 313,931 square kilometers.

With a population exceeding 38 million, Poland stands as the fifth-most populous member state within the European Union. The capital and largest urban center of the nation is Warsaw. Additional major cities comprise KrakΓ³w, GdaΕ„sk, WrocΕ‚aw, Katowice, ŁódΕΊ, PoznaΕ„, Szczecin, and Lublin.

Poland enjoys a temperate transitional climate. Its terrain extends across the Central European Plain, reaching from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Sudeten and Carpathian Mountains in the south. The Vistula, Poland’s lengthiest river, flows through its lands, while the country’s highest peak, Mount Rysy, finds its place in the Tatra mountain range of the Carpathians.

Poland shares borders with Lithuania and Russia to the northeast, Belarus and Ukraine to the east, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to the south, and Germany to the west. It also boasts maritime boundaries alongside Denmark and Sweden.
