Ashland is a small city located in the heart of Hanover. It was founded as a spa resort in the late 1840s thanks to the railroad.
Ashland is home to an Amtrak train station that serves trains to the northeast of the Region, including to Richmond, Newport News and Norfolk, as well as many other destinations in the north.
About 20 Amtrak trains run through Ashland every day Monday through Friday, and 19 trains on weekends.
Half of Amtrak’s daily trains stop at Ashland station.
These trains are NE regional trains, but long distance trains do not stop here. Over 30 different Amtrak trains pass through Ashland during the week.
Traveling on Amtrak trains provides passengers with a great opportunity to enjoy scenic views of this small Richmond suburb and university city.
The railroad runs between two central streets, where beautiful shade trees can be seen, as well as numerous Colonial Revival and Queen Anne houses, as well as college buildings and commercial institutions.
