The Music Pier is a versatile entertainment venue that hosts a wide range of performances, from stand-up comedy and musicals to solo performances and concerts by the Ocean City Pops.
Construction of the Ocean City Music Pier began in 1928 to provide the community with a new performance venue after much of the boardwalk was lost in a fire in 1927.
On July 4, 1929, during grand celebrations, the official opening of the Musical Pier as we see it today took place. It lived up to its name: the Municipal Orchestra delighted the public twice a day, seven days a week. It remained a prominent landmark in Ocean City for many years.
The Music Pier is decorated with famous musicians and musical groups of national recognition, and various competitions are held in this iconic place. Ocean City Pops hosts a summer concert series from July through October, offering audiences exquisite orchestral music and special performances by famous artists.
The Music Pier has undergone significant upgrades, including improved lighting and sound to match the updated and expanded stage. In addition, staff and client/artist facilities have been updated. The installation of air conditioning in the auditorium marked the completion of interior improvements in the spring of 1993.
