The castle is located in the town of Strakonice on a hill at the confluence of the Otava and Volynka rivers. It was built in the thirteenth century and has been reconstructed many times since, reflecting various architectural styles. Today, Strakonice Castle is one of the most important monuments in the Czech Republic, and in 1995, it was listed as a national monument of the country.
