Chopok, the third highest peak of the Low Tatras range in central Slovakia, reaches a height of 2,024 meters. From this peak there is an impressive panoramic view of the High Tatras, Liptov and the Hron valley. Near the summit there is a chalet called Kamenný Chata.

Access

To access Chopok you can use the European hiking route E8, which runs between the peaks Ďumbier and Dereše. There are also hiking trails from the north (from Demänovská Dolina Valley) and from the south (from bus stops Trangoška and Srdrzečko). Chopok is also known for its chairlifts, which take visitors to Chopok Uboc (1834 m) on the northern slope and Kosodrevina (1494 m) on the southern slope.

The climate

The climate in the area is characterized by an average temperature of about -1 °C, with highs around 18 °C and lows around -27 °C. January is considered the coldest month with an average temperature of -8 °C and July is the warmest month with an average temperature of 6 °C. Chopok is also known for its windy climate and the presence of a weather station.
