A live webcam shows the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal and the passage of ships through it.

The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean, making maritime transport significantly cheaper and shorter. However, the Panama Canal can only accommodate 48 ships per day, so it is heavily congested. The queue for ship passage is sold at auctions, and the price can reach $400,000 for one passage. In 2014, a route for the Nicaraguan Canal was approved, which will compete with the Panama Canal.

The Panama Canal allows large cargo ships, yachts, and small vessels to pass through. The Miraflores Locks connect the Panama Bay of the Pacific Ocean with the canal channel.
