This coastal resort town of Myrtle Beach in Orry County, South Carolina, USA is now available to view live via webcam.
Myrtle Beach is not only its own city, but also the center of a metropolitan area that includes several small coastal towns and islands stretching along the coast from Little River to Georgetown, known as the Grand Strand.
As of 2017, Myrtle Beach was the 13th most populous city in the state. Historically, this area, originally called Long Bay, was inhabited by the Waccamaw Indians before the arrival of European settlers in the 18th century.
The first European settlers arrived with the intention of expanding plantations towards the ocean, but encountered difficulties due to sandy soils, which affected the quality of the tobacco and indigo crops.
