Explore the Hula Valley (Hebrew: עמק החולה) through our live webcam!
This agricultural area in northern Israel, rich in fresh water, was formerly home to Lake Hula, which later dried up. Today it is a key stopover for birds migrating along the Syrian-African Rift Valley between Africa, Europe and Asia.
Lake Hula and the surrounding marshes were once a source of food for malaria-carrying mosquitoes and were drained in the 1950s. Part of the valley was then restored in an attempt to revive the disappearing ecosystem. About 500 million migratory birds pass through the Hula Valley every year.
Hula Lake Park, known as Agmon HaHula in Hebrew (Hebrew: אגמון החולה), is located in the south of the Hula Valley, north of the reserve. It was created as part of a project to restore the natural environment. In the early 1990s, part of the valley was flooded as a result of heavy rains, and it was decided to leave this area untouched by landscaping the surrounding areas.
