Webcams - South Africa
The Republic of South Africa, commonly known as South Africa, is situated in the southern part of Africa. It shares its northern borders with Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, and to the northeast, it is adjacent to Mozambique and Eswatini. Within the territorial boundaries of South Africa lies the landlocked enclave state of Lesotho.
South Africa stands out as one of the most ethnically diverse nations in Africa, boasting the largest proportion of white, Asian, and mixed populations on the continent. The country is renowned for its abundant mineral resources and holds the position of being the most economically developed nation in Africa, enjoying a relatively strong global standing. Notably, South Africa is the only African country that is a member of the G20.
In 1961, the Union of South Africa transitioned into the independent Republic of South Africa, breaking away from the British-led Commonwealth of Nations. This departure was prompted by the rejection of South Africa’s apartheid policy by other Commonwealth members. However, South Africa’s reinstatement in the Commonwealth took place in June 1994.
