Tehran is the capital and largest city of Iran, and one of the largest cities in Asia. This city is the administrative, political, economic, transport, trade, financial and cultural center of the country. It is located in northern Iran, at the foot of the Elborz mountain range, approximately 90 kilometers south of the Caspian Sea coast.

The population of Tehran together with its suburbs (Greater Tehran) exceeds 13 million people. The city is characterized by an amazing diversity of ethnic and religious composition. Its population is dominated by Persians, Azerbaijanis and Mazenderans, and the main religion is Islam. In addition, Tehran is home to significant national and religious minorities such as Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Jews, Baha’is and Zoroastrians.
