Telluride Resort is located in southwestern Colorado, in the San Juan Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountains. It has the largest concentration of mountain peaks between 13,000 and 14,000 feet in North America. The resort spans more than 2,000 acres of excellent skiing and stretches from historic Telluride to the alpine community of Mountain Village.
While Telluride is known for its challenging terrain, it also features over 50% beginner and intermediate trails.
Businessman Joe Zolin purchased two ranches, Adama and Gorrono, located on the mountain in 1968. He brought in Emile Allais, a French Olympic skier, to advise on the layout of the mountain and surrounding area. Telluride Ski Resort opened in 1970–1971, with five lifts and the establishment of a ski school. The official opening of the resort took place on December 22, 1972.
