Through this webcam, you can watch live the beauty of Dogo Onsen (道後温泉) in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, on Shikoku Island, Japan.
This hot spring is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan, with more than a thousand years of history. Its springs are mentioned already in the Man’yoshu, a Japanese anthology compiled around 759. According to legend, Prince Shotoku (574-622) enjoyed resting and taking meals here.
Dogo Onsen was also a favorite resting place of writer Natsume Soseki (1867-1916) when he taught in rural Shikoku. In his autobiographical novel Botchan, the protagonist frequently visits these springs, considering them the only part of nature he enjoys.
