This live webcam allows you to watch a live stream of the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur de Montmartre, also known as the Sacred Heart of Montmartre. It is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica in Paris dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, officially recognized as a national historical monument.
Situated on the top of a hill in Montmartre, the basilica offers stunning views of all of Paris and its suburbs from a height of two hundred meters above the Seine. It ranks second in popularity among tourists after the Eiffel Tower.
The idea to build a basilica arose after the defeat of France during the Franco-Prussian War, and the project was proposed by Felix Fournier. Construction began in 1875 and lasted forty years under the direction of five different architects. Completed in 1914, the basilica was officially consecrated in 1919 after the First World War.
The Basilica of Sacré-Coeur has been associated with the constant worship of the Holy Eucharist since 1885, and it is traditionally associated with the martyrdom of Saint Denis, the patron saint of Paris.
