Webcam with an ocean view in Costa Rica

Quepos, located in the province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, is a district within the larger canton of Quepos.

The name of the town originates from the Quepo Indians, the native inhabitants of this area during the colonial period.

Initially, this region was inhabited by the indigenous Quepoa people. In 1563, Spanish Catholic conquistadors, led by Juan Vázquez de Coronado, settled here and established the settlement of San Bernardino de Quepo. These conquistadors subsequently subdued the local Quepo people.

In 1746, the remaining Quepo individuals were relocated to a reservation that already housed a different native ethnic group. Quepos is renowned for its fishing opportunities, particularly for various types of fish like the Pacific Sailfish. The prime fishing season, especially for billfish, spans from November to April.
