A memorable military place. Here for the first time on the territory of Latvia, the Germans used chemical weapons – poisoned gas. As a result, a large number of soldiers were killed. Russian regiments and Latvian riflemen held this front line for 2 years. Several commemorative memorials have been installed on the island and a dugout and trenches have been restored.
