In the 13 th century, Izkraukle was one of the largest Libyan centres on the right bank of Daugava.
The order of Livonne built a castle here in the second half of the 14 th century. The castle was built in two stages, and a square building measuring 40 x 50 metres was built in the first. 4 halls and courtyard.
In the second half of the 15 th century, one or two cannon towers were erected to the castle as a result of the introduction of firearms.
It is mentioned that in 1599, the castle was partially destroyed and empty during the conflict. As early as 1680, the castle left only ruins. Stones, bricks, and dolomites were thrown away to build a church and a mansion.
As the political situation changed, the land was transferred to the Swedish Kingdom. As a result, the castle was never repaired but created a new castle in Koknese.
Until now, there is only one wall 5 metres high and a foundation.
