Selje is a commune in the province of Sogn og Fjordane, and its administrative center is in the village of Selje. The official language of the commune is Nynorsk. The population was 2872 in 2007, and the area of the commune was 226.09 km². Identifier code – 1441.
A tunnel is planned to be built under the Stad Peninsula, which will allow cargo and passenger ships to pass within the fjord-protected zone, from the Norwegian Sea to the North Sea. This will open up the possibility of safe year-round navigation between the cities of Bergen and Ålesund.
