How New Year travels around the world

New Year does not arrive everywhere at once. The first to see it are the islands of Kiribati in the Pacific, the last is American Samoa, almost 25 hours later. In between, midnight crosses Asia, Europe and the Americas one time zone at a time.

This page follows it. The countdown at the top shows how long is left until the next midnight anywhere on the planet, and the timeline lists every time zone with our cameras: when New Year comes there on your clock, which countries are in it and how many cameras you can watch.

The cameras below are sorted by time zone, the ones where midnight comes first at the top. Open a stream a few minutes before midnight to see the squares fill up and the first fireworks go off - and an hour later, move one zone west and see it all again.
