Lake Bohinj (Slovenian: Bohinjsko jezero) is Slovenia’s deepest lake, situated at an elevation of 525 m above sea level in the Bohinj municipality, near Triglav National Park. The largest natural lake covers an area of 3.18 km² and boasts a magnificent landscape with towering mountains.
The length of the lake is about 4.2 km and its maximum width reaches nearly one kilometer; it was formed by glaciation processes and has peculiar hydrological conditions.
The lake’s major tributary is the Savica River fed by water from Black Lake (Slovenian: Črno jezero) located in the Triglav Lake valley. From the eastern part of this lake flows Ozernica (Slovenian: Jezernica), which later becomes the Sava-Bohinjka river.
Apart from being attractive natural features, Lake Bohinj is also a favorite winter resort. There are several large ski resorts located nearby including Soriska Platina, Vogel and Kobla.
