Machine Gun Hill is a historical monument of national significance. The observation tower, bunkers are located in the Tyrel marshes. During the First World War, that the well-known January and Christmas battles took place here. The purpose of the operation was to break through the German positions, liberate Jelgava and later Kurzeme. The main striking force of the Russian troops here were Latvian riflemen .
