At the end of 19th century, reinforcments were built around Liepaja, to protect the naval base in Liepaja. Later in 1908, however, the Libava fortress was abolished and a strategic error was considered in the construction. Some of dismantled guns from the Libava fortress were moved to Kaunas foretress amd some were melted.
The reinforcements tried to destroy. Fortifications have exploded twice.
One way or another, the forts have come to our day, certainly not in their original form. Unfortunately, the northern forts are being destroyed more and more each year. To date, powder stores, artillery batteries, and underground structures have remained. It should be noted that passage through underground structures is strictly prohibited due to the risk of collapse. There are many beautiful drawings on the forts themselves, but be careful walking around. The historical name of the Northern Forts is Battery of Fortress №1.
For the convienience of tourists, there is a small parking lot. You can also swim and sunbathe on a small beach with a view of the forts.
