Gozo, which is part of the Maltese archipelago, is an island with an area of 67 square kilometers and is the second largest in Malta. The main city of the island is Victoria, which until 1887 was called Rabat.

In the early Neolithic, Gozo could have been inhabited by up to two or three thousand people. However, around 5500 years ago, the climate became drier and soils began to degrade, resulting in a decline in the local population in the late Neolithic, and the population was reduced to 382 or 515 people.

Gozo is the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago, second only to the island of Malta. There is a distance of 6 kilometers between these two islands.

The landscape of the island is characterized by flat-topped hills. There are no rivers on the island, only deep channels remain. Also on the island there is an “inland sea” – a lagoon, which is connected to the “big water” by a tunnel in the rocks.

The island’s coastline is dominated by sheer cliffs, although there are also a few small sandy beaches.
