Siegfried Anna Meyrovits was the first Foreign Minister of independent Latvia. He was born in the small town of Durbe (very close to Tukums) in 1887. He received his education at the Tukum gymnasium and then went to study in Riga. The February revolution predetermined his political career , and already in 1917 he headed a new political movement – the Latvian Peasant Union.
