Lake Sokcheon was originally part of the Han River, divided by Burido Island into two parts: the Songpa River in the north and the Sinchon River in the south. In 1971, construction began to connect the island to the mainland by widening the Songpa River and damming the Sinchon River. This led to the formation of Lake Seokcheon and the creation of new lands known as Jamsil-dong and Sinchon-dong.
