Live webcam shows Pont Charles Bessières, a historic arch bridge in Lausanne, Switzerland. The bridge crosses the Flon Valley and connects the historic hill of Cité (Lausanne old town hill) with the Mont-Repos district.
Although the valley originally contained the Flon River, the river was placed into an underground channel many years ago. Today, instead of water, the area below the bridge is filled with city streets, buildings, and urban traffic, which is what you can see from the webcam.
The bridge was opened in 1910 and named after the Lausanne banker Charles Bessières, who donated 500,000 Swiss francs to help fund its construction. At the time, this was a huge contribution that made the project possible.
A unique feature of the bridge is that the Lausanne Metro M2 line passes inside the structure of the bridge itself. Metro trains cross the valley through a tunnel built within the bridge, making it one of the more unusual pieces of transport infrastructure in the city.
From the live camera, you can observe vehicles crossing the bridge and traffic moving through the streets below in the Flon district. The area has transformed over time from an industrial zone into one of Lausanne’s modern urban quarters with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
