Sakurajima in Aira Caldera is at WARNING level, and the Tokyo Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre says it erupted at 11:29Z with ash extending northeast.

The advisory also says the ash cloud tops about 3.4 km. From the Kagoshima Prefecture camera, look toward Sakurajima in Kagoshima Bay. Smithsonian background says this is a caldera volcano about 1,117 m high and one of Japan's most active. The same source says frequent eruptions have long dropped ash on Kagoshima across the bay, and the Nagisa Lava Trail traces the 1914 lava flow along the shore.

The Sakurajima Volcano camera sits about 9 km from the summit and gives a direct view across the bay.
