Republic Day in Türkiye marks the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923. Today is a public holiday across the country, and the annual observance begins on 28 October and runs for 35 hours.

The day was set to remember the founding of the republic after the Ottoman Empire ended. It is kept every year on the same date, with the holiday period starting the afternoon before and continuing into the next day.

In Istanbul, the Bosphorus Bridge is a strong camera to open first. It spans the strait between Europe and Asia, and its deck, towers and traffic make it a place to watch the city's movement. Beyazıt Square is another clear pick. The square sits by the early Ottoman Bayezid II Mosque and has deep roots going back to the Forum of Theodosius.

For a wider city view, the Miniatürk camera looks over the Golden Horn and one of Turkey's largest miniature parks, where 135 models stand on a 60,000 square meter site. If you want a calmer frame, try Yavuz Kemal on the Kulakkaya Plateau in Giresun, a place known for its hazelnuts, Black Sea coast and mountain air.

Start with the Bosphorus Bridge, then check Beyazıt Square as the holiday progresses later in the day.
